Do you consider yourself a highly motivated person? Do you like to be on highly motivated teams? My guess is that most of you answered yes to both of those questions, but what does motivation even mean? In this session, we’ll learn about intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Both are necessary for teams to thrive, and both look very different. Learn how to understand what intrinsic and extrinsic motivation look like on a team, identify what increases and threatens both forms of motivation, and why both kinds of motivation are necessary for teams. Along the way, we’ll also learn about ways to provide extrinsic motivational structures for teams and uncover when motivation or providing inspiration are just not enough anymore.

Three key outcomes:

  • An understanding of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation
  • What do these different forms of motivation look like in individuals and teams
  • Structures to increase extrinsic motivation on teams
